Youth Fishing League
Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does a typical session look like?
Each session is 2 hours long. Each week may vary.
The first week, equipment is handed out with a lesson on how to use it, safety rules and fishing boundaries are reviewed, and we fish! Second week we try to arrange a guest speaker in for a brief lesson in their area of expertise (This can range from a lure maker to a conservation officer) and then we fish! Third & fourth week we fish! Fifth week is championship day and we fish using the skills we've learned to crown a winner; individual and team photos are taken with their trophies.

2. Does a guardian have to stay for the sessions?
Yes. They do not have to participate, but many do! They are an extra set of eyes for safety, some keep score with their small group, if they have a valid fishing license, they can help the kids handle the fish. we encourage parents to purchase a fishing license.

3. How much is it?
We are excited to offer 3 options for 2025. The first option is $275 where the participant brings their own rod & Tackle. Then we have add on options.

$25 basic rod combo (could be spinning or spincast)

$50 Upgraded Rod Combo (13 fishing code white combo Valued at $69)

$30 Tackle box filled (hooks, bobbers, soft plastics, lures and more from our sponsors)

$20 Kids Polarized glasses (Rapala blue or pink options)

$25 Adult Polarized Glasses (Rapala)

4. What do they get?
Each participant gets a hat, jersey, backpack (Draw string tackle bag), digital photos, prizes and trophy/medal. The Champion will get a Grand Prize announced at our Championship award ceremony in Owen Sound in late August.

5. What are the ages that can participate?
Due to popular demand we have expanded our leagues into two age groups 5-10 (junior) & 11-16 (senior).

6. Do I have to touch a worm or fish?
No, but our goal is by championship day you will feel comfortable and confident to handle fish and bait your own hooks!

7. What happens after the age of 16? Can they still participate?
Absolutely! We have many returning participants comeback to volunteer for their high school community hours and then eventually coach a team!

8. Do you offer sponsorship?
Yes, we are always looking for like minded companies who share in our vision getting families outdoor in nature. Kids are the future and if we can get them hooked on fishing, they will want to protect what they love and that includes our natural environment. We do our best to showcase the supporting sponsors so their community knows what values they stand behind.

9. Do they have to have fishing knowledge or experience?
No. This program is for all levels! We have had hundreds of kids catch their VERY FIRST FISH with us.

10. Is there a discount for siblings?
No, but this is something we are reviewing for 2027 as we have many siblings join.
